The National Marine Fisheries Service (NOAA Fisheries Service), in partnership with North Carolina Sea Grant, is providing competitive funding for research in support of the Bottlenose Dolphin Take Reduction Plan (BDTRP) and the Pelagic Longline Take Reduction Plan (PLTRP). The research will focus on innovative and practical proposals that seek to: (1) enhance knowledge of bottlenose dolphin stocks; and (2) reduce serious injury and mortality (bycatch) of coastal bottlenose dolphins incidental to commercial fisheries under the BDTRP, and pilot whales and Risso's dolphins under the PLTRP. This represents a cooperative research opportunity with the commercial fishing industry, scientists, and other interested parties.

The Request for Proposals and Application are available online at: http://www.ncseagrant.org/home/research/grantsfellowships.

Applications are due by 4 p.m., APRIL 30, 2012.

For more information regarding this research funding opportunity, contact Steve Rebach at srebach@ncsu.edu or 919/515-9104.
