North Carolina Sea Grant Offers Holiday Gift Ideas
Posted Thursday, November 15, 2012
This holiday season, let North Carolina Sea Grant take some of the stress out of gift giving with a few ideas for the special people on your list.
First, for those who wish they could visit the North Carolina coast throughout the year, we offer Coastwatch. In the pages of our award-winning magazine, you'll travel the state's coast and meet the residents, learn the traditions and history of the area, appreciate the wealth of coastal natural resources, and understand the issues that shape its future. Through Dec. 31, 2012, each one-year subscription at the regular rate of $15 gets you another one-year gift subscription free. To take advantage of this offer, send us the names and addresses of your two recipients and we'll take care of the rest. Make your check payable to Coastwatch and write "2012 Holiday BOGO" on the memo line. Mail it to: Coastwatch, North Carolina Sea Grant, NC State University, Box 8605, Raleigh, NC 27695-8605.
Second, for the cook who enjoys seafood, consider a copy of Mariner's Menu: 30 Years of Fresh Seafood Ideas, written by Joyce Taylor. This 300-page book is packed with images, safety tips, helpful hints and mouth-watering recipes. It is a complete resource for handling, storing, preparing, cooking and enjoying fresh seafood. Mariner's Menu is available from North Carolina Sea Grant for $25, or from the University of North Carolina Press. In addition, check with your local bookstore.
And third, for people who love the beach, we offer Seashells of North Carolina, by Hugh J. Porter and Lynn Houser. This 132-page reference guide is for anyone who wants to identify shells found on the North Carolina coast. It includes color and black-and-white photographs, along with descriptions of 261 shells. Seashells of North Carolina is available from North Carolina Sea Grant for $12. Or check with your local bookstore or purchase it from John F. Blair Publisher.
Best wishes for 2013 from North Carolina Sea Grant!
