Contact: Posted Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 The 2013 Local Catch Summit is scheduled for Feb. 21 and 22 at the University of North Carolina Coastal Studies Institute in Wanchese. North Carolina Sea Grant is a co-sponsor. This event will focus on ways to include North Carolina seafood in the local food movement. The summit begins with a dinner presentation on Feb. 21 about local food and beer by the owners of Weeping Radish Farm Brewery. It will be held at Basnight's Lone Cedar Café. Talks will focus on the seafood supply chain; the growing demand for local food; a program that connects students with food providers and explores how to protect the natural environment while providing the products society consumes; and innovations by chefs and watermen to improve the seafood industry. Registration is required by Feb. 15. There is a $25 fee for the dinner on Feb. 21, but the Feb. 22 events are free.
